Most systems don’t fail because they’re too complex—
they fail because they’re framed incorrectly.
We design systems from a different perspective.

🔹 SECTION 1 — What This Means
Most systems are built within a single domain—technical, business, or operational—and problems arise when those perspectives don’t align.
Perpendicular Systems approaches this differently.
Instead of working within one perspective, it reframes the problem across multiple domains so the system can function as a whole.
Many “complex problems” are not actually complex—they are misframed.
People are often working from:
- incomplete understanding
- overly narrow models
- or conflicting assumptions
This leads to stalled progress, unnecessary conflict, and systems that don’t work.
The Perpendicular Systems approach:
- expands the frame of the problem
- integrates multiple perspectives
- reorganizes structure so better options become visible
The goal is not to force a single answer, but to create a system where different elements can work together effectively.
These represent different layers of system design, implementation, and communication.
Exploration of structure across artistic and symbolic domains.
These extend the same principles into practical, real-world systems for individuals and independent creators.
This approach has been developed across:
- enterprise systems work
- long-term teaching environments
- and current product development (including Object-Oriented Music)
Perpendicular Systems is an ongoing body of work focused on making systems usable, coherent, and adaptable across domains.
